Is there a limit to how much fermented food we should consume? How much do you all eat? I’ve been eating a lot of fermented foods, mostly sauerkrauts, since i started making the stuff. I probably eat a cup of some fermented vegetable a day on average. I haven’t seen any problems really, but a friend I respect recently told me that she thought it was too much, but couldn’t really explain why. Any thoughts out there…?

That’s a good question – haven’t come across any limitations mentioned. Like you, I try to eat around a cup of fermented food daily. When in Japan last year I saw that the Japanese tend to include something fermented in every meal, this was in restaurants, I’m assuming the same goes in homes. A Japanese breakfast we had in a hotel was literally packed with fermented fish and vegetables of all kinds, and everyone seemed fit and well 😉 – and it was totally delicious…
